Purdue Scientists Warn of Mold in Single Serve Coffee Makers
Single serve coffee makers are the fastest growing segment of the coffee brewer market. Many coffee drinkers appreciate the convenience of dropping in a coffee capsule and pumping out a single cup of coffee. Others really love the variety of coffees available for single cup coffee brewers, especially the Keurig. On the other side of the issue, coffee purists say that single serve coffee makers make lousy coffee, and that the packaging, particularly K-cup style capsules, are bad for the environment. Now, scientists at Purdue University are sounding another alarm. Single serve coffee brewers, they say, are prone to collecting mold and mildew, which can make you sick.
